David Livingstone () was a Scottish physician and possibly the greatest of all African missionaries, explorers, and antislavery advocates. Before Livingstone, Africa's interior was almost entirely unknown to the outside world. Vague notions prevailed about its geography, fauna, flora, and human life. Livingstone dispelled much of this ignorance.
